چکیده

A 13-year-old girl occasionally felt pain on the ulnar side of her right wrist before her right forearm abruptly locked in the pronated position while playing basketball. She had no pain or swelling after the injury; and after a month of therapy, she was seen at our hospital. On physical examination, the right forearm was locked in 70” pronation. When supination was attempted, the patient felt pain and the forearm remained fixed in pronation. X-ray films showed an ulna plus configuration and a dorsal dislocation of the distal ulna (Fig. 1). Our preoperative diagnosis was that dislocation of the distal ulna caused the locking, and we planned to reduce the distal radioulnar joint dislocation and shorten the ulna. At surgery, the ECU tendon was

A mechanical study of the moment-forces of the supinators and pronators of the forearm.

We determined the torque generated by the muscles rotating the forearm at varying degrees of pronation and supination. We used 8 human cadaveric upper extremity specimens with the humerus and ulna rigidly fixed with the elbow in 90 degrees of flexion, while free rotation of the radius around the ulna was allowed. The tendons of the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU), extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU), supin...

Ulnar-sided pain due to extensor carpi ulnaris tendon subluxation: a case report

UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION We present the case of a patient with extensor carpi ulnaris tendon subluxation who was first treated for distal radioulnar joint sprain. CASE PRESENTATION A 25-year-old Caucasian man was seen at our policlinic one month after he had fallen on his outstretched hand. A diagnosis of extensor carpi ulnaris subluxation was made clinically but we also had the magnetic re...

Stabilization of Ulnar Stump with Extensor Carpi Ulnaris: A Case Report

Giant cell tumor (GCT) involving distal ulna being rare with reported rate of 0.45-3% of all GCT cases; the literature has only sporadic cases reported. Various treatment options have been proposed, and dilemma exist whether to do resection alone or resection combined with stabilization or reconstruction. Also, there is no conclusive evidence regarding the method of stabilization or reconstruct...

Extensor carpi ulnaris: bilateral accessory tendons to the fifth metacarpal

Introduction Awareness of potential variations in muscular organization and routing of tendinous insertions is essential for those in medical education, practice, and research. In the upper limb the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle originates from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus by the common extensor tendon and from the posterior aspect of the proximal half of the ulna to insert on the base...
